Wrapping up 2023

Quantitative reflections on 2023, and a few laurels I forgot to post when they came in. (I wanted to post only the laurels, but rejection is such a big part of writing life, and rejections mean you're putting your stuff/yourself out there-- that's important to celebrate, too.)

I read 36 books and 7 screenplays over the year, and watched 59 different movies.

Of those, book highlights were Book Lovers by Emily Henry, The Heroine's Journey by Gail Carriger, Craft in the Real World by Matthew Salesses, So We Meet Again by Suzanne Park, The Poetry Home Repair Manual by Ted Kooser, Meet Me in the Margins by Melissa Ferguson, and Becoming Duchess Goldblatt by Anonymous.

Movie favorites included BARBIE (Gerwig, 2023), BEING MARY TYLER MOORE (Adolphus, 2023), 80 FOR BRADY (Marvin, 2023), GLASS ONION (Johnson 2022), TOP GUN: MAVERICK (Kosinski, 2022), and BOOKSMART (Wilde, 2019).

As for the rejections, across all my types of writing I collected 57 rejections in 2023, with 2 acceptances and 3 screenplay contest advancements for two different screenplays -- yay!

Here's to plentiful reading, watching and writing in 2024!
